When he arrived at Kerem B'Yavneh, he accepted upon himself the responsibility of befriending the foreign students and helping them appreciate the Land of Israel. After he married, he would invite them to his aouse often. He always invited them in pairs, despite the fact that it caused a bigger hassle, so that they would feel more comfortable.
Chovev was the address, not just for students from the Diaspora, but also for his friends from the army, to seek help. He was always helping those who were weaker physically, and those that were having trouble religiously.
